MyMaps- Google’s new map creation service

April 7th, 2007 by { Arvinder Kang } · 1 Comment · map

Google recently added another tool into its swissknife. Its called MyMaps - A service for creating personalized maps using Google Maps. It seems to be a pretty good tool for creating easy maps which integrate not just placemarker, but also polygons and lines.

To give it a shot, I picked up last Campus Crime Report released by the University and created this map in less than 15 minutes.

The official google map’s blog has pretty creative examples of what can be done with it. Google claims it as “Map-making: So easy a caveman could do it”.

However for embedding purposes I would stillĀ  stick with Atlas Maps. They still more services like easy embedding and contributing to maps.

I have to agree: as wonderful as MyMaps is, there’s no embed feature! That kills it for me. Though, I wish Google and Atlas would work together, because plotting trips in Atlas would be a great feature.
